The Life of a Disciple

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.  -John 15:18

The call to discipleship requires utmost commitment.  God will not use lukewarm people.  To follow Christ is to forget about your own ambitions and do the will of the Father.  Those who seek to keep their life will lose it.  What good is it for you to gain the whole world and lose your soul?

When Lucifer was cast out of heaven, he fell to earth with one-third of the multitude of heaven’s angels.  Satan now rules this world with a host of depraved spirits.  The prince of the power of the air knows his time is short ever since his defeat at Calvary’s cross over 2000 years ago.  In these final days, he has turned up the heat as most of the world follows his deception.

People hate the truth.  They call me everything unclean, blow smoke in my face, and blaspheme the name of Yahweh.  I roam the streets where the drug addicts, homosexuals, prostitutes, and mentally ill flock together in alleys or on the sidewalks.  God has called me to the nastiest parts of society in Jesus name.

The original 12 disciples all died martyr’s deaths with the exception of John.  History has it that he was boiled in oil yet remained unscathed as he continued to preach.  James was put to the sword.  Peter crucified.  You get the drift.  You could say that continuing the ministry of the messiah was a pretty crummy job.  Long hours.  No benefits.  However, the retirement plan is exceptional.

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.  -Matthew 9:29
